We’re making astrology accessible to the entire world.

Astrology has been helping people reflect and connect for thousands of years. Co–Star deciphers it for today.

“Being seen is that feeling you get when you read something real. You feel seen when you read Tolstoy or Sappho or the Greek myths, that’s why they’ve stuck around for so long. It makes it possible to articulate what’s actually happening to you. Astrology is the same - it validates reality, makes it easier to say things that are hard to say. It’s what allows us to build closeness in a sea of isolation. Co–Star isn’t just another horoscope app. It’s about that irrational feeling of being completely seen.”
BANU GULER, CEO + FOUNDER
Scorpio  Leo  Cancer
Banu Guler was born in Texas to a Pakistani dad and Turkish mom. At 17, she moved to New York to study psychology at NYU. She taught herself graphic design while working as a bike messenger, and went on to lead design and product for brands including Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, and VFILES before co-founding Co–Star in 2017.

Anna Gelb

Leo  Virgo  Leo

Anna grew up in Seattle in the pause between the grunge era and the Amazon boom, a blissful time when neither flannel shirts nor Patagonia vests meant anything. She finds pleasure in organizing all forms of chaos, and has brought her skills to multiple projects including a traveling restaurant, seed exchanges, CSAs and a subscription service for kitchen pantry products. At Co–Star, she is operations manager for the brand team.

Engineering

Calvin Hu

Aries

When Calvin was born, his parents took him to an astrologer who said his luck would turn around someday. It did: his video game pirating hobby as a teen led him to eventually study computer science. Now, at Co–Star, he runs everything Android related. He spends his free time sailing the Hudson and maintaining a mildly popular Twitter account that nobody knows is his.

SENIOR WRITER

Casey Jane Ellison

Aries  Leo  Capricorn

Casey Jane invented bicoastal couture comedy in her YouTube series for VFiles, What The F*shion? This was followed by small but extremely villainous TV roles including ‘Intense Hipster’ on Search Party and ‘Insane Doll Woman’ on Dickinson. As a kid growing up in Hollywood, she was the boss of coming up with storylines for her and her friends’ imaginary games. As an adult, she wishes TV came in pill form.

Design

Chris Meyers

Aquarius  Aquarius  Gemini

As a teen in Minnesota, Chris was fixated on fishing. He tracked moon phases, seasons, and locations to catch the biggest fish in the state. He’d illegally guide tourists during college breaks to make extra money. Fishing taught him patience; Brazilian jiu-jitsu taught him the same lesson more painfully. Rush or panic, and you’re the one tapping out. If there’s ever an astrology app for fish, he is ready.

HEAD OF STRATEGY

Emily Batt

Aquarius  Leo  Virgo

Emily decided to study physics after overhearing a conversation about quantum mechanics in a suburban mall. In college, she authored a history thesis about ‘acedia’—a well-documented form of depression experienced by medieval monks. Emily currently lives in Maine, where she frequently goes for dips in the ocean, even in winter. She also skijors—racing on skis over an obstacle course while being pulled by a horse—competitively, at a professional level. (If you had never heard of skijoring before, neither had anyone else until Emily told them.) She has officiated four weddings.

Engineering Manager

Hal Keller

Capricorn  Libra  Leo

Both of Hal’s parents are chemists. Hal learned to use a microscope and to solder as a kid, and developed a lifelong affinity for laboratory glassware. They now make custom perfumes for fun. They also teach yoga to hackers. Hal’s first experience of coding was customizing their Neopets landing page, which they can still picture perfectly because they have a photographic memory. At Co–Star, Hal visualizes systems as one of the team’s Haskell engineers.

Head of Content

Hanna Hurr

Pisces  Sagittarius  Leo

Hanna grew up in a remote, Swedish-speaking region of Finland, where she spent her childhood skiing to school and collecting wild snails. She later moved to Norway to attend the kind of high school meant to produce future politicians. Instead, she went to college in the US and made friends with a group of anarchists, then moved to New York to start a magazine. She can build furniture, snowboard, and see right through you.

SENIOR WRITER

Hannah Black

Scorpio  Taurus  Libra

Hannah was born in Manchester, England. She recently accidentally moved to a very small village in the south of France, after spending the previous decade in New York. She is the author of two small books that almost no one has read, and many essays on art, politics and her feelings. As an artist, her work has been shown and collected internationally. Subjects she can talk about interminably include astrology, psychoanalysis, how much better the city is than the countryside, and parenting.

ENGINEERING

Jared Ramirez

Aries  Capricorn  Libra

Jared grew up amid a sprawling extended family network in California. Their gatherings involved competitive tamale-making and a lot of strong wills. He went to college in Arkansas, where he got into rock climbing and camping. He dislocated his shoulder nine times before taking up surfing, skiing and kayaking instead. He moved to New York in 2025 and started doing ceramics at a studio in Gowanus. All the plates and bowls and mugs in his apartment are things he made himself. He likes reading ancient history—Persian, Greco-Roman—where there are only a handful of surviving primary sources and the rest is mythology filling in the blanks.

Engineering Manager

Jonathan Garnaas-Holmes

Aquarius  Aries  Gemini

Jonathan’s last name comes from the name of a meteor site in Norway, the Gardnos crater. This, he thinks, is a sign that he was destined to end up at Co–Star. He’s worked in app development for fifteen years, taking a brief break in the middle to teach at a pre-school where he learned that he is great at talking to children about how they feel. He spends his time watching improv, and caring lovingly for his three guinea pigs, Flora, Winnie, and Klaus.

WRITER

Karim Kazemi

Aries  Scorpio  Leo

Karim is from the foothills region just outside Denver, Colorado. When he was 15, his parents described him as ‘very ambitious’ for spending hours thoughtfully responding to an online Scientology questionnaire, but forbade him to go to their newly opened center in downtown Denver to have his results interpreted. He turned to other methods of self-insight, such as realist American fiction, astrology, and visiting psychics recommended by his friends. He has lived in Mexico City since 2018.

Engineering

Kat Selvocki

Leo  Libra  Virgo

Kat grew up in a tiny former coal mining town in eastern Pennsylvania. She hitchhiked halfway around Iceland to work on a farm where they harvested two tons of turnips a day by hand in freezing October weather. She now takes German wheel classes at a circus school—it’s two giant rolling hoops you stand inside of while doing flips, like a hamster wheel for humans. She grows citrus trees in a greenhouse in her backyard. A rat once came out of her toilet in Brooklyn and the internet briefly made her famous.

Engineering

Kelly Wang

Aries  Virgo  Taurus

Kelly grew up in Mountain View, a sunny town in the armpit of the Bay Area. She majored in Computer Science (booooo) and minored in English (yay!!!!) in college, where she nursed a distrust for tech culture that is still alive and thriving today. Her free time is spent collecting secrets, consuming celebrity gossip, and wallowing. If Kelly were stuck on a deserted island, she would give up immediately and ask the showrunners to take her home.

Data Science

Mitchell Bohman

Gemini  Pisces  Sagittarius

Ever since an old man told him that “words are like stencils that make cutouts of the world,” Mitchell has had a hard time not reading all books, fiction and non-fiction alike, as if they were instruction manuals. At Co–Star he does all operations data-related, BI to NLP, but science fiction is likely to blame for his conceit that astrology is the original predictive analytics.

COO

Nicole Ivey

Libra  Virgo  Capricorn

Nicole was born in the same hospital room as her sister, on the same day, two years apart—their birth certificates looked so similar she spent years convinced she was adopted. On snow days while other kids went sledding, you’d find her reconciling checks at her dad’s cleaning company, which probably explains how she ended up with an economics degree from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. After college she raised organic chickens and kept two pairs of shoes by the door: manure-caked boots for the farm, clean ones for civilization. She later founded a nature-based preschool where kids stayed outside six hours a day regardless of weather. She first interviewed at Co–Star on her own wedding day, and now brings order to the chaos as COO.

Design

Rin Park

Libra  Leo  Aries

Rin grew up in Manila, tossing leftover snacks at monkeys, and Seoul, before moving to New York to toss pizza crusts at off-duty models and study at the School of Visual Arts. An especially fun UI/UX class eventually led, like a gateway drug, to a job as a designer at Co–Star. Outside of work, her hobby is finding new hobbies, preferably ones that require deep research on obscure forums, like building keyboards or weaving rugs. She dreams of opening a cafe in Spain where you’re not allowed to use a laptop or talk.

Data Science

Ryan Zhang

Taurus  Aquarius  Virgo

At 14, Ryan was taking pictures of aircraft from airport control towers in Beijing for magazines. He is still obsessed with flying. He once traveled home to China via nine connections just to ride the Island Hopper, a route that connects the Pacific one tiny island at a time. He wrote a program that hunted for pricing anomalies in airline systems and for a while it delivered absurd results: $10 round-trips to Hawaii, $300 to China. He lives in Brooklyn with a 10-year-old corgi named Pudding. He’s working on getting his pilot’s license so Pudding can see the Earth from above.

Engineering

Sam Zweig

Gemini  Libra  Scorpio

Sam ran Linux in high school because he didn’t trust Microsoft or the government. He grew up with a computer but no TV, so he misses most cultural references from his own generation. He played fiddle as a kid—Suzuki Method, fairly seriously—until he traded it for a guitar in 9th grade. He’s been in two post-punk bands, but no one has heard of either of them. He’s trying to relearn fiddle now that he’s older and his tolerance for loud angry music has started to run out. His dog Yuri (like the astronaut) is an old, sassy husky who loves playing in the snow and is not very well trained.

Operations

Stephanie Bravo Lopez

Scorpio  Virgo  Cancer

Stephanie was born and raised in New York City. She still loves exploring the city–favorite spots include the Honeywell in Harlem and the North Woods in Central Park. She majored in Educational Studies and Hispanic Studies, while living with astrology-obsessed roommates. She still loves the folkloric Mexican dance and music she grew up with, and whatever she’s doing she’s usually also listening to something in the background, whether music or a podcast. She is afraid of birds after a traumatic experience being chased by a chicken. At Co–Star, she works assisting with recruiting and operations projects.

ENGINEERING

Sydney Yin

Virgo  Cancer  Leo

Sydney’s interest in interactive storytelling began at five, when her parents bought her the PC game Magic School Bus Explores the Solar System. She taught herself Java to build choose-your-own-adventures, competed in VR esports in college, and currently recreates medieval battles with rattan swords in parking lots as part of the Society for Creative Anachronism. She’s fluent in Mandarin Chinese but can’t read or write it. This means she can argue with you, but don’t expect her to text you back.

Engineering

Tendai Gwini

Gemini  Scorpio  Sagittarius

Growing up in Zimbabwe, Tendai’s interest in music led him into the wilder corners of the early web. He would often stay up all night scouring the internet for specific house tracks. He learned to write his own scripts to facilitate these searches—dodging dead Megaupload mirrors and tip-toeing through malware-laden forums. He is now part of the iOS team at Co–Star, where these skills are still broadly relevant.

Product

Tracy Jennings

Gemini  Leo  Libra

Tracy studied ancient Roman history at Notre Dame and Oxford, poring over epitaphs and inscriptions in the kind of gigantic tomes you always thought were just for display in libraries. She left England for a better techno scene, a better tech scene, and a better (technical) skiing scene. Vivid memories of reading horoscopes from Cosmo at track meets in high school indirectly led to her current position as Product Lead at Co–Star.
